Balmoral Castle

Located in the shadow of Lochnagar Mountain, one and half hours drive from the Cults Hotel is Balmoral Castle, holiday home of the Queen and the Royal Family - a much visited attraction by visitors from all continents. During April to July each year the public can gain entry to the ballroom of this magnificent castle that dates back to the 1480’s. It first became the private royal holiday residence of Queen Victoria and her husband Prince Albert in 1852 after they had visited this part of the Scottish Highlands, where they fell in love with the scenery and the local folks who lived close by.

The Lonach Gathering

Another key event is The Lonach Gathering which is truly unique due to its March of the Clansmen – The Men of Lonach. Armed with pikes and battle-axes they march around the arena. This is a very friendly gathering and in recent years, famous celebrities can be found at Lonach. Billy Connolly is a resident of the area and screen actors Robin Williams and Michael Douglas have been seen at the event.
